Chairman’s Report

A junior training session was held at Riverside Leisure Centre and was attended by 29 youngsters. The event was organised by Torexe with support from EDVA, and was well received and enjoyed by all.

Future events receiving financial aid from EDVA should acknowledge this support on publicity and literature.

Secretary’s Report

Attended South West Volleyball Association executive meeting at Weston Super Mare in January. The main agenda at the meeting was the new south west strategic plan which we hope to incorporate within our own development plan. Also discussed was the need to update affiliation fees to the EDVA.

Treasurer’s Report

The balance of accounts are as follows;

current account £631.66
development fund £407.12
fixed interest account £1139.00

Fixtures Report

Two teams failed to attend the closed tournament in January (Space Hoppers and Churston). As both teams are new comers to the league they did not realise that attendance was mandatory and as a result will be fined the entry fee only. There will be no other penalties. It was agreed to continue with the present system that it is compulsory for all teams to attend the closed tournament. Failure to do so would incur an automatic fine of 50% on top of entry fee.

It was suggested that a welcome pack could be supplied to all new teams joining the league advising them about their obligations to attend events and tournaments.

Development Officer

There will be a ladies tournament on the 21st April at Dawlish Sports Centre. The league is willing to support this event and underwrite any loss up to a value of £100.

Junior Development

Under the child protection act children are not allowed to be photographed during volleyball events. Anyone wanting to take photos has to be registered with the tournament organiser and wear an identification badge. This information needs to be displayed on tournament entry forms etc.

The youth development squad, which is sponsored by the league, would welcome new players.

The possibility of a junior grand prix tournament in our area was suggested. Torexe to discuss proposals for this. What can Torexe do ? What can the league do?

Any Other Business

Dave Rees has voiced concerns about the standard of refereeing of 3rd division matches, and in particular lack of knowledge of playing libero players. With a view to this we need to look into organising referee courses to upgrade standards. Ros Sutherland to book refs course for a weekend in September and also encompass libero session for current refs.

There is concern about matches being officiated by club members. Teams to get together to organise neutral referees.

Ros also to organise level 1 coaching course for September.

N Batho expressed concern about national league team. Would league be interested in taking over?

Although we are called Exeter District League, we do not seem to have any definitive borders at the moment. How far should we spread our cover and support? We need to agree extent area covered by the league.

Date of next meeting 8th April.

Meeting closed at 9.20.
